The ALL About Accessible Play Online Course
About this two hour online self-paced course:
Play is the cornerstone of learning, bridging the gap between the known and the unknown, fostering active engagement, and motivating communication and collaboration in the classroom. But what happens when students are unable to fully access their play environments due to differences in vision, hearing, fine or gross motor skills, or sensory processing? How do we begin to support these students and use their individual strengths to enhance their play experiences?
In this presentation, we will explore the critical role of play in cognitive development and learning, backed by research and practical insights. Attendees will reflect on classroom environments using checklists to identify ways to improve accessibility and increase engagement. We’ll share over 20 accessible play ideas and modifications—ranging from playground activities and Play-Dough to pretend play, science centers, bubbles, and blocks—that can be implemented immediately. Additionally, we’ll explore how to connect play to communication by creating meaningful language opportunities and fostering deeper engagement within the learning environment. Don’t wait—let’s unlock the power of accessible play.
Learning Objectives:
1.Identify the five key components of play and understand their significance in promoting learning in the classroom.
2.Develop at least three communication strategies to integrate with accessible play activities.
3.Experience and explore 20+ accessible play ideas and environmental modifications for various classroom centers and areas from preschool to high school.
